You might ask how Mindful Running came about for me.
As some of you know I recently had a very big accident in 2013 when I slipped crossing a creek, took a very severe fall, and nearly died from injury and blood loss. To heal required placing a titanium rod through my right femur and a second through my right hip. Now the strange ‘coincidence’ is that I had almost the identical operation performed on my opposite leg 7 years earlier. In a sense, it left me symmetrical, in a titanium Terminator kind of way.
The first accident caused me to turn to barefoot running to heal my body. I found that the connection to the earth was the only way to recover.
This second accident took me into new and uncharted territories at much deeper levels.
Again I had to change my approach to running. This time though I had to work on my mind, I had to change my approach to life, and it was only through connecting at a deep spiritual level through meditation was I able to find the way through.
This approach to running hasn’t just healed my life, but dramatically improved the quality of my runs and the happiness quotient on them too. Now I know people often say getting in the “zone” while running only happens when it happens, or that if you try to get in the zone, you’ll inevitably fail.
Well, I’ve learned it isn’t just possible, it’s almost inevitable, if you approach running (or anything in life) in a different way. While barefoot running helps us increase our awareness, inside and outside of ourselves; mindful running, helps us harness this awareness to get in the zone, rewire the mind, and strengthen the body.
Let me be very clear on two points. The first is you don’t have to be a barefoot runner to do mindful running NOR the other way around, but they do support each other.
Secondly, through Mindful Running you don’t have to sacrifice performance in any way. In fact the opposite is true.
With Mindful Running you can actually improve your stride, endurance, and performance. The more relaxed and efficient you become, the better your runs. More importantly, through Mindful Running you work on the total health of your body, soul, and mind together.

Helping people run better is great, but helping people live better lives and connect inward through their running, that’s perhaps the most important thing we can do, and that’s what this approach can offer you.
